USD/CHF Price Forecast: Can bulls overcome resistance at 0.8185 as bearish pressure eases?

  • Resistance near 0.8185 continues to cap USD/CHF, despite firm support above 0.8130.
  • October saw Swiss consumer confidence weaken to a four-year low.
  • Selling pressure on the US Dollar is easing, although buyers have yet to show conviction.

Indecision continues to dominate USD/CHF trading on Friday, with doji candles on the daily chart reflecting the market's lack of conviction. The US Dollar (USD) is edging higher against the Swiss Franc (CHF), but the pair remains within its earlier trading ranges. While substantial support has emerged in the 0.8130-08150 zone, the failure to push past 0.8185 leaves the broader downtrend unchanged.

Friday's Swiss releases lent support to the pair. The SECO Consumer Climate Index fell to -42 points in the three months preceding October from -35 in the previous month, marking its lowest reading in four years. Swiss Foreign Currency Reserves also dropped, reaching 759 billion in October compared with 770 billion in September.

Risk aversion is also providing some support to the US Dollar as technology stocks lead a sell-off across equity markets. Following a series of encouraging labour market releases earlier this week, traders are preparing for a strong US Nonfarm payrolls report later on Friday.

Technical Analysis: Can USD/CHF clear 0.8185 to challenge the bearish bias?

Chart Analysis USD/CHF

With USD/CHF at 0.8174, nearby horizontal resistance at 0.8185 continues to constrain the pair, preserving the wider downtrend. Early signs of positive momentum are emerging: the 4-hour Relative Strength Index (14) is nearing its 50 midpoint, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) has edged above zero. Even so, the bullish impetus remains fragile.

For an upward correction to gain a chance, the pair must overcome the 0.8185 zone, which marks Wednesday's and Thursday's highs, followed by the 3 November high of 0.8217. Conversely, a decisive move below Wednesday's low at 0.8127 would put the early September lows in the 0.8050-0.8070 region back in focus.
