Risk-off sentiment is keeping Bitcoin (BTC) under pressure near $80,000 on Wednesday, while Gold (XAU/USD) remains above $4,000. Moves in both assets reflect the broader cautious mood ahead of the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) interest rate decision later in the day.

Following the monetary policy announcement, short-term support levels are likely to shape price direction. Gold is advancing towards $4,100, while Bitcoin stands above the key psychological supply level of $82,000.
For XAU/USD, a daily close under $4,000 could strengthen sellers’ control. Meanwhile, a sustained correction below $80,000 in BTC could lead to a prolonged sell-off, with macroeconomic worries and buyer exhaustion among the contributing factors.
Caution prevails as markets await the Fed’s forthcoming interest rate announcement. Reflecting the broad consensus, traders are pricing in an overwhelming 91% probability that the central bank will leave rates unchanged in the 3.75-4.00% range.
In its weekly 'Ahead of the Curve' report, K33 Research said: “Tomorrow’s FOMC is priced at 89% for no change, but markets expect hikes by year end and more next year. The midterms add to the noise and are likely contributing to the heavy chop in BTC lately,”
The post-meeting press conference by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh will also draw close attention, as participants look beyond the rate decision for clues to the regulator’s policy path. Economists, notably, are assigning greater odds to a rate increase in December, a prospect that could weigh on risk assets.
In emailed commentary, CoinRoutes Co-founder and CEO Ian Weisberger said, “This is a nervy week for crypto,” adding, “Traders face a Fed rate decision, results from the biggest tech companies in the world, and around $12 billion worth of Bitcoin bets expiring on Friday. Then the US midterms land next Tuesday.”
Appetite for digital assets remains in Neutral territory despite the macroeconomic concerns, with Wednesday’s crypto Fear & Greed Index reading at 51, only slightly above the previous day’s 48. That limited recovery, however, remains well short of last week’s Greed reading of 63 and last month’s 74.
At $80,812, Bitcoin sits only marginally above the rising 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of $80,805, while the middle band of the 20-day Bollinger Bands at $81,908 continues to cap gains. With no decisive recovery above the mid-band and only limited support from the rising short-term EMA, the overall outlook remains neutral-to-bearish.
Caution is also evident in the momentum readings. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is near 45, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line stays in negative territory, indicating that attempts to move higher could continue to attract selling.

The Bollinger middle band near $81,907 marks the first resistance level. A daily close above it would clear the way for the next bullish target at the upper band around $84,072. Immediate support, meanwhile, rests at the 50-day EMA of $80,805. A sustained breach would bring the lower Bollinger Band near $79,744 into focus, where buyers would be expected to regroup in an effort to limit a deeper correction.
A bearish near-term outlook persists for Gold at $4,050, with spot prices below the resistance cluster comprising the 50-day EMA at $4,201 and the Bollinger middle band near $4,120. Further overhead resistance comes from the Parabolic SAR at $4,108, underscoring the layers capping the market. A negative MACD reading, alongside an RSI just below 40, indicates that downward momentum remains active.

The lower Bollinger Band around $4,005 offers the first support. A decisive move below it would leave room for a deeper correction towards lower psychological levels. For a recovery, buyers would initially need to regain the Parabolic SAR at $4,108 and then the Bollinger mid-line at $4,120. The prevailing bearish pressure would only begin to ease with a daily close above the 50-day EMA at $4,203, followed by the upper Bollinger Band near $4,234, signalling the possibility of a more lasting bullish reversal.

Designed as a virtual form of money, Bitcoin ranks as the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation. No single person, group or entity can control this payment mechanism, removing the need for third-party involvement in financial transactions.
The term altcoin covers cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. Some, however, exclude Ethereum as well, on the grounds that forking originates from these two cryptocurrencies. Under that interpretation, Litecoin would be the first altcoin: it was forked from the Bitcoin protocol and is therefore an “improved” version of it.
Built to maintain a steady price, stablecoins are cryptocurrencies backed by reserves of the assets they represent. Each stablecoin’s value is pegged to a commodity or financial instrument, such as the US Dollar (USD), while an algorithm or demand regulates its supply. Their primary purpose is to offer an entry and exit route for investors seeking to trade and invest in cryptocurrencies. They also provide a way to store value, given the volatility generally associated with cryptocurrencies.
Calculated by dividing Bitcoin’s market capitalisation by the combined market capitalisation of all cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin dominance illustrates the level of investor interest in Bitcoin. BTC dominance is typically high ahead of and during a bull run, as investors favour a relatively stable cryptocurrency with a large market capitalisation, such as Bitcoin. When BTC dominance declines, it usually indicates that investors are shifting capital and/or profits into altcoins in pursuit of higher returns. This shift generally sparks a surge in altcoin rallies.
