Top 3 Price Predictions: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple – BTC tests key 200-day EMA during correction as ETH and XRP losses deepen

  • With its correction continuing, Bitcoin is trading close to the 200-day EMA at $76,423; a close beneath it could lead to additional losses.
  • Having closed beneath its key EMAs, Ethereum's correction takes it below $2,215.
  • Following a decline of over 5% so far this week, XRP is trading beneath $1.230 on Friday.

Losses of over 2.5%, 4% and 5% so far this week leave Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple (XRP), respectively, on course for a fourth successive weekly decline since early October. Downside risks are growing for these top three cryptocurrencies: BTC is nearing key support at its 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of $76,423, while ETH falls below $2,215 and XRP remains beneath $1.230 on Friday.

Bitcoin retreats towards $77,000

At $77,477 on Friday, Bitcoin has fallen back beneath its 100-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of $77,814, leaving the near-term outlook bearish. The price remains only just above the 200-day EMA at $76,423.

Although the broader uptrend remains intact, this configuration points to a correction, with the shorter EMAs now representing overhead supply. Downside pressure is also evident in the Relative Strength Index (RSI), which is approaching oversold territory at 34, and the negative Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), despite support from the longer-term trend below.

Any advance would first encounter the 100-day EMA near $77,814, then the 50-day EMA around $80,585. Further above, horizontal resistance stands at $85,000.

Key support lies at the 200-day EMA of $76,423, and a sustained breach would likely pave the way for a deeper correction. Conversely, regaining $77,815 would relieve immediate selling pressure and leave scope for broader consolidation within the recent range.

Ethereum falls further beneath its 200-day EMA

At $2,213 on Friday, Ethereum remains below its main EMAs as the correction continues, preserving a bearish near-term outlook. ETH has fallen beneath the 200-day EMA of $2,313 and the 100-day EMA of $2,357. It also remains under the former rising support trendline, which now provides resistance around $2,364, indicating that overhead supply is likely to limit rebounds.

Despite the possibility of brief recoveries, momentum indicators continue to signal downward pressure: the RSI is oversold at 28, while the MACD remains negative and retains a bearish configuration.

A recovery would initially face the 200-day EMA near $2,313, before meeting the 100-day EMA at $2,357 and the breached rising trendline around $2,364. Together, these form a concentrated band of resistance ahead of the horizontal barrier at $2,400. Beyond that, buyers would target the 50-day EMA at $2,434, with further resistance at $2,770.

Should the current bearish move continue, the first significant support is the horizontal level at $1,823, where buyers could try to stabilise the decline.

XRP falls beneath a key support area

With XRP trading at $1.227 on Friday, the bearish phase continues below its short-, medium- and long-term EMAs. The 100-day EMA at $1.329 and the 200-day EMA at $1.369 add to the resistance limiting upside potential.

Sellers appear to retain control even as oversold conditions approach. The RSI is hovering in the low 30s, while the MACD is moving further into negative territory, underscoring weak momentum.

A rebound would first meet horizontal resistance near $1.300, followed by the 100-day EMA at $1.329 and the 50-day EMA at $1.350. The 200-day EMA at $1.369 presents a more substantial structural barrier, ahead of higher resistance levels at $1.540 and $1.900.

The next significant support stands at $1.000; a sustained move down towards that floor would likely leave XRP vulnerable to further near-term losses. Any recovery, meanwhile, is expected to face difficulty beneath the overhead cluster of EMAs.

Cryptocurrency metrics: common questions answered

For each cryptocurrency, its developer or creator determines the total number of tokens available to be minted or issued. The algorithm underpinning its blockchain technology limits how many of these assets can be minted through mining, staking or other mechanisms. Circulating supply can also shrink, whether through token burning or assets being sent mistakenly to addresses on incompatible blockchains.

Multiplying an asset's circulating supply by its current market value gives its market capitalisation.

Over a specified trading period, such as 24 hours, trading volume measures the total number of an asset's tokens traded or exchanged between buyers and sellers. By aggregating volumes across centralised and decentralised exchanges, this metric helps assess market sentiment. A rise in trading volume often signals demand for an asset, as more people buy and sell the cryptocurrency.

To encourage traders to take positions and keep perpetual contract prices aligned with spot markets, exchanges use funding rates. Through periodic payments, this mechanism is intended to bring futures prices and index prices into alignment at regular intervals. A positive funding rate indicates that the perpetual contract price exceeds the mark price, so bullish traders holding long positions pay those holding short positions. Conversely, when the funding rate is negative, perpetual prices sit below the mark price, and traders with short positions pay those holding long positions.
